A site was selected for the new town at the center of the county. The elevation is about 544 feet.

Included on this site are several maps of the Tyler, Texas metropolitan area, from sources such as Google, Smith County, the Smith County Appraisal District SCAD, and the University of Texas at Austin.

Situated in the growing East Texas region, Tyler is the seat of Smith County.
