Welcome to Tyler ...
"The Rose Capital of America”!
Established in 1952, the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden is the nation's largest rose garden, spanning 14 acres.
The gardens include over 38,000 rose bushes and over 600 different varieties, as well as reflecting pools, walkways and fountains. It was listed in 2011 in Livability.com's top 10 most inspiring gardens in the USA.

They are the location for numerous wedding photo shoots, school group photos, parties, reunions and professional photography as well.
It is one of 24 All American Rose Selection (AARS) test gardens in the country, and also includes a unique Idea Garden created and maintained by the Smith County Master Gardeners.

Another popular area is the 1-acre Heritage Rose and Sensory Garden, which has antique rose varieties dating to 1867. Situated in the in the southwest corner of the Garden, it contains over 30 varieties of 19th century garden roses.
Other areas frequented by Garden visitors are the Vance Burks Memorial Camellia Garden, the Edna Lankart Daylily Collection and the Meditation Garden near the reflection pools.
In 2012, a new feature is being added to the Rose Garden: Spring bulbs! More than 8,000 bulbs were planted for bloom during the spring of 2012. More than 10,000 square feet of beds containing narcissus (daffodils), crocus, hyacinths, tulips, Dutch iris, allium, crinum, spider lilies and caladiums have been planted.
Actual construction of the garden began in 1938
as a part of the federal Work Projects Administration (WPA) under the administration of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
In March 2011 the City of Tyler and the Texas Rose Festival Association entered into an agreement to develop a master plan to enhance the Tyler Rose Garden.

Located adjacent to the Rose Garden is the Tyler Rose Museum, which showcases and documents the history of the annual Texas Rose Festival. The 78th annual Rose Festival will take place on October 13-15, 2011.
The rose parade, an arts and crafts fair, floral shows, and many more activities attract thousands of visitors annually to Tyler for this spectacular event.

We love to buy cut roses in Tyler ... our favorite vendor is available most any day in the corner of the parking lot at Brookshire's on Broadway and Rice Road. She has many different roses to choose from, they are inexpensive, and they last for days!
