The University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) is a comprehensive institution of higher education offering both undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

The main campus consists of 210 acres in a lovely forest setting in the east area of Tyler; other campuses are located in Palestine and Longview.
The enrollment is over 6,200 students. Located on the campus is the widely respected Cowan Center, the venue for concerts, Broadway plays, famous speakers and other performing arts.

Established in 1926 as part of the Tyler Public School System, Tyler Junior College (TJC) provided to area residents an opportunity for higher education in a local environment. In 1946, it became a separate entity from the school system, and opened a new campus in 1948.
As the college celebrates its 85th year, it has a record enrollment of 12,062 for the Fall 2011 semester. In addition, thousands more enroll in TJC continuing education courses each year. The campus has expanded over the years and includes a number of highly respected venues, including the CESSE Planetarium and the Tyler Museum of Art.

A girl's drill team was organized at TJC in 1947, named the Apache Belles, and gained national recognition. The group has been entertaining vast audiences ever since, from the football field to the performance stage, with their engaging precision dance, head-turning production numbers, and famous high kick. As one of the premiere collegiate teams of their kind the Apache Belles have appeared in three movies and have met and entertained numerous dignitaries. read more on the Apache Belles website

Texas College is an historic post-secondary institution, located in Tyler, providing a unique college experience for the students it serves. The College was founded in 1894 by a group of ministers of the Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church who were interested in offering a quality education to African American youth.
In the spring of 1984, Texas College received its original charter from the State of Texas and the teaching and learning process became a reality. The College is an affiliate of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, and has a modified open admissions policy that permits it to serve a broad-based traditional and non-traditional student clientele.
The college offers 16 baccalaureate degree programs within four divisions, and features an enrollment of about 600 students.
