Rusk Texas

Located about 60 miles south of Tyler on U. S. Highway 69 at its intersection with U.S. 84 is the City of Rusk, the county seat of Cherokee County. The population of Rusk is about 5,000 residents. Elevation is 518 feet above sea level.

Rusk was created by the Texas legislature on April 11, 1846. It was named after Thomas Jefferson Rusk, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence.

Nearby communities include Alto, Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Jacksonville, Palestine, Henderson, Bullard, and St. Augustine.
